Mark is the Managing Partner of Hickey Lawyers, one of the Gold Coasts’ largest commercial law firms.
Mark has worked as principal legal advisor for the developers of some of Queensland’s largest mixed-use projects, including Hope Island Resort on the Gold Coast and Barrier Reef Resort on the Capricorn Coast.
With over 30 years’ post admission experience, Mark’s expertise spans all aspects of the development process, including site acquisition, approvals, appeals, community title structuring, consultation with government, negotiating and drafting complex joint venture agreements, construction contracts and funding facilities.
Mark has acted as the principal legal advisor to both buyer and seller of numerous hotel assets including the Sheraton Mirage Gold Coast. He has also acted on all aspects of the development and structuring of many iconic hotel projects including the Calile Hotel in James Street, Brisbane. This includes the negotiation of hotel management agreements and other sophisticated agreements used in the industry.

Hickey Lawyers advised Sunland Group Limited on the strata titling and management rights of the Legends Hotel Surfers Paradise which was eventually sold to Mantra Group. Hickey Lawyers also acted for Sunland Group in its negotiations with Gianni Versace SPA for the licence agreement of the Versace trademark in the construction and management of the Palazzo Versace Hotel and Condominiums.
Hickey Lawyers advised Thakral Holdings Limited (an ASX listed property developer) and Cockpit Hotels (a large Singapore based hotel owner) on the strata titling of the Crowne Plaza Hotel in Surfers Paradise.
Hickey Lawyers acted for the developer of Hilton Surfers Paradise, a development that includes a hotel lot, retail lot as well as strata titled luxury apartments in a 5-star hotel/serviced apartment complex.
